In bestowing the Benny Russo Community Award, the Council on Aging will recognize people who have a commitment to caring. We will be honoring people who give of themselves to benefit the community, especially seniors. Every year, we will reach out to the community in search of nominees who possess these qualities.

Who deserves the award?

Someone who …

  • Constantly works toward making their community better.

  • Is a pillar of the community.

  • Is willing to help anyone at any time, and in any way.

  • Demonstrates strength of character and deep faith.

  • Demonstrates devotion to their family, church, and community.

  • Has a public servant’s heart.

Every year, the award winner’s name will be listed on the Benny Russo Community Award plaque. The plaque will be part of a larger showcase, displayed proudly in the lobby of our offices at the Elkhart Train Depot, that will include a portrait of Benny as well as a copy of his Sagamore of the Wabash. Also, the Council on Aging will give the award recipients a cash gift to donate to the charitable organization of their choice.

Your gift to the Council on Aging will make the Benny Russo Community Award a reality and allow the recipients to promote worthy programs in our area, year after year. It will also benefit the Council on Aging itself, a group dedicated to helping others and giving back to our community.

Just like Benny Russo did.
